The Jacobson family founded Leelanau Cellars in 1974 in one of its Leelanau County cherry orchards, believing Northern Michigan would be a great place to grow wine grapes and produce wine. At the time, nobody knew if that faith would be fulfilled. 50 years later, the winery is still family owned and operated, the region boasts over 30 wineries, and that belief has been confirmed. Over the years, the tasting room has grown into a popular area attraction on the shores of the Grand Traverse Bay, now greeting over 40,000 visitors annually. The Leelanau Cellars brand is easily recognizable in retail wine stores and restaurants throughout the state of Michigan and the surrounding Great Lakes region as well, thanks to a distribution of 300,000 cases annually.

Red Blend

Merlot Blend

With Merlot at the helm it boasts with ripe black fruit (black cherries, blueberries), great aromas of fresh cedar from the Cabernet Sauvignon.  Great bones (structure), great flesh (fruit)=it’s the whole package.

Bone dry Riesling with a great nose of key limes, lemon custard and mouth-watering acidity.

This Gewürztraminer has notes of honey and green apple with a floral bouquet. It provides the kind of acidity that keeps the sugar from being heavy and sticky which makes it a nice and light wine.

Rosé

Delicate, crisp, and vibrant, this dry rosé is active with appealing aromas and flavors of strawberry and cherry, coupled with a bright acidity.

A leaner style of Merlot, yet still delivering a classic Merlot nose and taste. Dark fruits - black cherries, black raspberries, and blueberries - settle on the tongue, while hints of cedar fading into a subtle dryness. 

This chardonnay's nose jumps out of the glass as a ripe, fleshy peach. The full-bodied taste combines the classic flavors of honeydew, melon, and starfruit with an ever-so-slight steel flavor.

This Pinot Grigio will meet you with aromas of fresh apricots and stone fruits. On the palate, a faintness of honey and lemon, fleshy, with a slight wet minerality, followed with a subtle dryness and crisp acidity.

Left on the vine even after the grapes reached peak ripeness, this Riesling has aromas of apricot, candied lemon, ginger, and jasmine. This wine is sweet, with tingling acidity that highlights lemony notes on the finish.

A brilliant, New Zealand style white wine from the cool climates of Northern Michigan. Herb, Earth and tropical tree fruits two-step with a dry, citric brightness.

This semi-sweet white wine showcases aromatics of very ripe tropical fruits like pineapple and papaya, integrated with honeysuckle. The character of the aromatics follows through to the pallet with an additional layer of slate or minerality. Vignoles grapes achieve remarkable ripeness in late summer. Arrested fermentation yields an intense white wine with exotic flavors, rich sweetness, and balanced acidity.
