We are a family-owned and operated estate winery located just outside of Kalamazoo in Oshtemo Township. We believe in highlighting the beauty of Southwest Michigan by exploring terroir and agriculture. We believe in crafting wine and cider in small batches, for maximum care to detail and quality.  All our wines are either Estate produced or made with grapes grown in the Lake Michigan Shore AVA.

Lawton Ridge Winery was founded by friends Dean Bender and Crick Haltom in 2008. After their retirement in 2023, the Schultz Family of Mattawan purchased the winery. Bill and Denise, second generation farmers, and their son Andrew and his wife Ruth took the leap to bring Lawton Ridge into the future. Coupled with their restaurant and microbrewery - Texas Corners Brewing Company - it seemed like a natural fit. They look to continue and grow the legacy that was built before them, while adding cider, and new exciting wines from grapes and apples grown along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Lawton Ridge Winery is an extension of our family business, from our beginnings on 80 acres outside of Mattawan in 1951, we’ve seized the opportunity to grow over three generations. Lawton Ridge Winery is the next chapter in our story. We look forward to providing quality wine, cider, and experiences at Lawton Ridge for a long time to come.

A sweet white wine with blueberry flavor.

The blend of fruitiness and acidity creates a well-balanced flavor that is sure to please any palate. 
The sandy loam soils of the Lake Michigan Shore AVA provide ideal conditions for growing expressive and high-quality grapes, resulting in a Pinot Grigio with notes of juicy pear and citrus.  Estate grown & bottled.

Estate grown & bottled.  Our Traminette shows off some of its German heritage on both the palate and nose.  Floral spicy flavors and fresh fruit aromas mark this approachable wine.  Tasting Notes:  Citrus, herbal, grassy, earthy

Dry, sparkling Chardonnay. Michigan's Chardonnays are distinct for their lean, mineral-driven to fruit-forward pro les, avoiding the heavy richness found in warmer climates.  Petillant is a French word meaning slightly sparkling, giving way to this exciting new wine in our bubbly lineup.

Pinot Meunier Blend

Estate grown & bottled.  Skin contact Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier blend with notes of strawberry, orange zest, and watermelon rind.

Estate grown & bottled.  A blend of about 60% unoaked and 40% oaked give this wine more body and depth of flavor while still being approachable.  Tasting Notes: White grape, crisp apple, minerality.

Estate grown & bottled.  In the glass the wine starts with the classic fruity aromas Riesling is known for and ends with a long crisp finish.  Tasting Notes: Minerality, grapefruit, vanilla

Estate grown & bottled.  Warm days and cool nights allow the grapes to mature with the proper balance of sugar and acidity, giving crispness to our white wines.  Tasting Notes:  Floral, melon, white grape, stone fruit

Made from Cabernet Franc, the grapes were sourced from two vineyards in our Lake Michigan Shore AVA.  The wine aged 9 months in French Oak barrels and then bottled and allowed 14 months of bottle aging before release.  Tasting Notes: Dark cherry and plum, chocolate notes, soft tannins

A sweet Concord table wine.  Tasting Notes: Purple grape jam

Blend rosé.  Dry, sparkling rosé with jammy fruit notes.

Chambourcin Blend

Semi-Dry table wine.  Red blend.  Tasting Notes: Bright red fruit, subtle spice

White Blend

White grape wine with natural peach flavor.  Table wine.

This red wine is a blend of grapes grown in the Lake Michigan Shore AVA.  Together, this combination gives us dark fruit flavors of black cherry and plum with a peppery finish. 

Red Blend

Medium body red with smooth tannins and dominant notes of dark fruit (plum, date).

Demi-Sec

Semi-Dry Sparkling Riesling with fizzy notes of apple, pear, and white grape.

Sweet white wine packed with peach flavor and aroma.  Summer in a bottle!

Estate grown & bottled.  The flavor profile is sharp with acidity and prominent notes of apple, pear and lemon. This blend is generally modeled after a Sauvignon Blanc. The flavor difference from one vintage to the next is part of the beauty of wine, terroir, and different growing seasons.
